The intelligent agents installed on the client machines transfer their inventory information via TCP/IP. A central database stores the information in a readable format and makes it accessible through a user-friendly native interface or a web browser. Easy-to-use database query tools created with open-source technologies enable detailed examination and analysis of the inventory data.Since communication is initiated by the agents, even itinerant devices like laptops are all-but guaranteed of delivering their data and keeping the database current. If a machine goes offline the scanned data is saved on the client computer and transferred the next time a network connection is available.
